I love this photograph by Paul Strand. This beggar in New York is quite obviously visually impaired, but still wears a sign saying 'BLIND'. I love the label. I want to do a series of these 'no shit' labelled people. Also interesting little fact- the oval badge above the 'BLIND' sign is her registered begging number. At the time you had to register to beg. As if. I wonder if they got taxed too?

Wow.. as a VI artist and sometime-photographer I have loved this photo for many years, but never knew that bit about the oval section above her sign. I always wondered, but never had any idea of what that was. Thank you so much for the info! :)
I found out about this piece in college when learning about Paul, &
this photo really hit me hard. Thank you so much for posting it, and giving us that info. :) Paul Strand kicked much butt, and so do you. ^_^
